SOCIAL ACTIVITIES & DEVELOPMENT PROGRAMS
We at the PMU believe that human development only truly takes place when all requirements of an individual’s basic needs are met.

As such, the Program Management Unit's Social & Development Division strives to meet the social needs of the communities served by the Knowledge Stations (KSs). In order to determine these needs; the Social & Development Division continuously undergoes field work to assess the needs of users in each community. When the assessment is complete, social activities are planned and piloted in the KSs to fulfill these needs. Most significantly however, these activities are implemented through the usage of Information and Communications Technology, both on and offline. These activities, with technical support from the PMU Technical Division are designed to link social and economic development in order to sustain the KSs, as well as the local populations surrounding the KSs.

To complete this task, the Social & Development Division works closely with local NGOs to enhance leadership opportunities that support socioeconomic activities by using on/offline ICT. The Social & Development Division of the PMU hopes to underscore to local community members the importance of ICT, and how it can be used to improve their livelihoods. And illustrates this by its support of entrepreneurial ideas--both micro and macro enterprises--and by encouraging a network of communities that facilitate the exchange of information and ideas.

The PMU ultimately envisions that each KS and its community will develop a financially long-lasting project governed by community members; by integrating local communities in the planning process, we believe we will create sustainable projects. By enhancing their capacities to utilize ICT, we hope to show Jordan’s rural populations how ICT can be a tool that allows them to thrive, both economically and socially. We hope, along with our KS Program partners, that by making ICT more accessible and relevant to Jordanian’s lives, we can help to bridge the digital divide and to connect people on the local, regional, and international level.

For that, the Knowledge Stations have since its inception in 2000 given a great importance to social activities, events and development programs. These activities are of utmost importance to the Knowledge Stations' programs due to their role in serving the community and as a response to the communities' needs.

During the past two years, the Knowledge Stations have:
  • - Implemented development programs through the partnership with Microsoft Corp. and hosting agencies in the communities that address those communities' needs.
  • - Held numerous seminars, workshops, and training courses that deal with human and economic development.
  • - Held numerous lectures and seminars dealing with family health and wellbeing.
  • - Held numerous seminars and lectures that deal with various social issues such as (Women rights, children's rights, early marriage, …)
